If you need help choosing the best table top size for your space, think about its occasional use as well as everyday. The following guide will highlight some considerations.
Measure your room or space and sketch out the details, include length and width of the room and mark out the doorway, windows and electrical sockets. The doorway will determine the flow and windows and sockets may affect table location for daylight and power access.
Ideally allow 95cm (minimum 70cm) clearance on each side of the table. This is the amount of space needed to pull the chairs out from under table or to walk behind people who are seated at the table. (If you are tight for space, leave enough room for you to pull out your chairs when trying to sit on them).
For family seating allow approximately 61cm per chair and more for formal seating, allow 76cm for guests to feel comfortable.
Rectangular tables are the best option when it comes to fitting more guests around the table.
Round tables maximise space in smaller areas.
Square tables in square rooms look more symmetrical.
